Ladies Of The Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary is an extension of the the American Legion Family and historically affiliated with what is now referred to as the Senior Post. Specifically, it is a patriotic service organization for women serving over 10,000 communities world wide. Supporting every man that served in World War I, and every man in every war since, there have been wives, girlfriends, mothers, daughters and granddaughters. The Legion Auxiliary gives them a place to work together to advance patriotism and responsible citizenship.
The Weymouth Legion Auxiliary has been around for almost as long as Post 79. In the early 1920's they worked to support Post 79's efforts to raise money for town memorials such as Legion Memorial Field and the town's War Memorial Wall at Ralph Talbot Amphitheater. After the Second World War the Auxiliary helped coordinate the repatriation and burial of the Weymouth's casualties as well as providing comfort to those returning soldiers that required assistance.
Today the Auxiliary raises funding through their annual Poppy Drive and sponsors young local women interested in government and politics at the Massachusetts Girls State.
If you are a woman interested in volunteering to help America's veterans, their communities and their families then consider joining the American Legion Auxiliary. The Auxiliary meets the second Tuesday of every month at the George R. Bean Post. Please call Margaret MacNeil for more information at 781-335-3348.
